Movin' On

What is Movin' On?

The AES office, in conjunction with other IUPUI campus departments and community organizations, has developed the MOVIN' ON program to assist area high school students in transitioning from high school to college. Through a variety of activities, lectures, assessments, and workshops, students will acquire knowledge and skills to help in not only making a successful transition to college, but in making the best decision regarding which college is the "best fit" for them.

Movin' On Activities

All Movin' On activities are intended to be educational and interesting, and will include the following topics:

  • Identifying and discussing academic strengths and areas of concern
  • Understanding aptitude, abilities, and career interests with regard to disability awareness
  • Gain greater understanding of the technological support available on most college campuses
  • Understand your rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act (and other applicable laws) and how those decisions relate to their educational pursuits
  • Learn how to make application for college admission, financial aid and scholarship funds
  • Gain an appreciation of the cultural and community aspects related to the higher education experience.

The activities presented throughout MOVIN' ON will build on one another. At the end of the day each student will take with them a CHECKLIST and a SET OF QUESTIONS corresponding to each of the day's sessions. Each student can then use the checklists and questions to evaluate different colleges across issues that are relevant for them.
